About Us

The PEN All-India Centre is the Indian branch of International PEN. It offers a platform for writers and readers, people interested in the literary arts and culture in general. Based in Mumbai, we meet several times a month and have two fixed monthly meetings: PEN@Prithvi, on the second Saturday of every month at Prithvi House, Juhu, and PEN@Theosophy Hall, New Marine Lines. We work across genres and languages. Our members include prominent poets, novelists, non-fiction writers, editors, theatre writers, and critics. We believe that writers have four basic commitments. First, to their writing. Second, to sustain a dialogue with their readers. Third, to an inclusive concept of culture across borders. Fourth, to the defence of cultural freedoms — because, if you want to be free to express your thoughts, you should stand by others who wish to do the same.
